On June 17, 2024, PMBG partner Baldemar Garcia Jr. and associate Holly Hourigan successfully obtained a unanimous defense verdict in a wrongful death case filed against a trucking company in Starr County, Texas. The 6-day trial included accident reconstructionists, medical, and phone download experts. Plaintiffs sought $4 million in past and $25 million in future damages. The jury deliberated for one-and-a-half hours before finding the truck driver was not negligent and instead finding plaintiff solely negligent in causing the accident.
“We are thankful that the jury listened to the evidence and followed the law. The belief that south Texas and Rio Grande Valley juries are dangerous plaintiff-friendly venues is outdated and unwarranted. These citizens can be trusted to be fair and reasonable,” said Baldemar Garcia Jr.
